DIY Silk and Shine Shampoo

Here is the complete formulation of the shampoo base of silky shampoo

Ingredients:

  1. Cationic Guar Gum – 0.6 grams
  2. Vegetable Glycerin – 6 grams
  3. Hydrolyzed Silk – 1.2 grams
  4. Panthenol (Vitamin B5) – 0.6 grams
  5. Allantoin – 0.6 grams
  6. Polyquaternium-10 – 0.36 grams
  7. Liquid Germal Plus – 0.36 grams
  8. Fragrance – 0.6 grams (choose fragrance of your choice)
  9. Sodium Laureth Sulfate – 39.6 grams
  10. Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside – 18 grams
  11. Cocamidopropyl Betaine – 18 grams
  12. Distilled Water – 34.08 grams

Procedure:

  1. Dispersing the Cationic Guar Gum:
    • Add 0.6 grams of cationic guar gum and 6 grams of vegetable glycerin to a beaker.
    • Stir gently until the guar gum is thoroughly dispersed in the glycerin.
  2. Add Non-Surfactant, Non-Water Ingredients:
    • Add 1.2 grams of hydrolyzed silk, 0.6 grams of panthenol (Vitamin B5), 0.6 grams of allantoin, 0.36 grams of polyquaternium-10, 0.36 grams of liquid germal plus, and 0.6 grams of fragrance to the mixture.
    • Stir until the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Add Surfactants:
    • Gradually add 39.6 grams of sodium laureth sulfate, 18 grams of caprylyl/capryl glucoside, and 18 grams of cocamidopropyl betaine.
    • Stir the mixture gently to avoid excessive lather and ensure even distribution of the surfactants.
  4. Add Distilled Water:
    • Add 34.08 grams of distilled water to the mixture.
    • Stir gently to avoid foaming and allow the mixture to incorporate smoothly.
  5. Thickening:
    • Let the mixture sit for about an hour and a half to allow it to thicken up naturally.
  1. Packaging:
    • Once thickened, prepare to package the shampoo into a 4-ounce (120 mL) Totle (tube + bottle hybrid).
    • Place the Totle upright in a beaker or holder to keep it steady.
    • Pour the shampoo mixture into the bottle.
    • Cap the bottle securely.
  2. Final Testing (Optional):
    • For testing the shampoo’s lather, take any remaining mixture in the beaker.
    • Add about 30 mL of water and agitate it gently to create foam.
    • The result should be a silky, rich lather that feels smooth and luxurious in the hair.
